Information and Useful Facts about Services for Preschools

As part of our mission to support the educational efforts of our community, the St. Charles Public Library provides special services to educators at preschools located in our Library District.

All teachers at schools located in the St. Charles Public Library District are entitled to the services listed below. St. Charles Public Library card holders who teach at schools outside the Library's district are not entitled to teacher services. They are entitled to the same services as any other St. Charles Public Library patron. Please contact the public library serving the school district you teach in if you require special services. Most public libraries offer special services to educators who teach in their service areas.

Teacher Loan Service

Do you need books to go along with the themes your class will be working on this month? The Youth Services staff is happy to assist you in selecting materials for your classroom. Simply contact us with the topics of your choice at least five (5) business days before you would like your materials. We will select materials, check them out, and place them in a convenient bag for you to pick up. Materials are available for up to a 5-week loan.

You can request a Teacher Loan by completing the form on our web site, emailing Youth Services, contacting Youth Services by phone, or stopping by the ASK ME Desk. If your themes are planned for the year, you can set up a series of monthly bag exchanges.

Teacher Library Accounts

Teachers who work at schools located in the Library’s District may sign a form at their school indicating they would like a library account. The director of the school then submits a list of teachers authorized to check out materials for the educational needs of the school and agrees to be responsible to the St. Charles Public Library for all materials borrowed on their behalf. The account can be used by presenting a photo I.D. at the ASK ME Desk in Youth Services.

Audio Books, CDs, & Kits 3 weeks

Please note:

  • Materials may be renewed by contacting our Circulation Department at 630-584-0076, ext. 0.
  • Standard fines for overdue items, generally 10¢ per item per day, will be charged.

Story Visits

Your students can enjoy an adventure filled with stories, songs, finger plays, and more at a library story visit. Monthly story times can take place either at the Library or at your school. Contact A. Denise Farrugia at 630-584-0076, ext. 236 or by email at least 4-8 weeks in advance for the best selection of dates. Schedule for the entire year beginning August 15.

Every Child Ready to Read Workshops

The Library offers early literacy workshops several times a year. You will learn about the current research on early literacy and brain development, which indicates that it is never too early to prepare children for success as readers. The workshop will demonstrate skills and techniques to develop the six pre-reading skills in children. Additionally, suggestions for age-appropriate books and resources will be offered, as well as easy ways to include early literacy skills in your classroom activities.

Book Jackets

Contact Youth Services if you are interested in a bag of book jackets for classroom decoration or projects.
