Let's Talk Books!

Student Book Discussion Groups for Grades 2–8
Fall 2010

Read the book and have fun talking about it with other kids. Register for discussions at your grade level. Copies of the books are available at the ASK ME Desk. Remember to bring a copy with you. Bring your lunch, lemonade will be provided. Meet in the Bisbee Conference Room off the main lobby. Remember to register as discussions are limited to 14 students per session. Sponsored by the St. Charles Optimist Club.

Students outside the District: $2 per date. You may register 2 weeks before.

Book Group Participation Guidelines

  • Register and pick up book titles at the ASK ME Desk.
  • Registration is limited to 14 students per book discussion.
  • Register for all discussions or be selective.
  • Book discussion will start promptly at noon.
  • Bring a copy of the book with you to the discussion.
  • Bring your lunch, lemonade will be provided.

Book Group Etiquette

  • Listen when others are talking. Respect other people’s ideas. Speak when there is an opportunity; don’t interrupt.
  • What you say needs to be contributed with responsibility and respect for yourself and for the group.

Attendance Guidelines:

Please call the ASK ME Desk at 630-584-9390 when you are unable to attend a program you are registered for.

Requests for special accommodations must be made 48 hours in advance. If assistance is needed in using the Library, please inform the Library Assistant at the main circulation desk. The Discover Your Library! publication is available to St. Charles Library cardholders in large print, on audio cassette or in Braille by calling Special Services at 584-0076, Ext. 219.

Registration

Registration & Attendance Procedures

Registration form

Youth Services programs are offered for children and students through grade 8 residing in the St. Charles Library District. A child’s, student’s, or parent’s St. Charles Library card is required. Grandparents may register grandchildren for certain programs. Check program listings for these events.

The child or student must be the appropriate age or grade to be registered in a program. Each eligible person attending a program must be registered. Registration is on a first come basis and continues until all openings have been filled. Drop-in seating may be available for some programs.

Families living outside the Library District may attend certain programs for a fee of $2 per person on a space available basis. Check-in at the ASK ME Desk 15 minutes before the program. All attendees must meet the age/grade requirements. Non-resident seating will begin 5 minutes before the program. Check program listings for events that include nonresident attendance.

Programs will begin and end promptly. Meeting Room/Story Room doors will open 10 minutes before the program is scheduled. Seating for registered participants will be guaranteed until 5 minutes before the scheduled start time when drop-in seating will begin.

Late admittance is limited.

Please call the ASK ME Desk at 630-584-9390 when you are unable to attend a program for which you are registered.

For your child’s safety, a parent or adult must accompany all children seven (7) years of age and under while in the Library. Please review the “Keeping Safe in the Library” brochure with your child/children.

Requests for special accommodations must be made 48 hours in advance of a Library program. If assistance is needed in using the Library, please inform a Library Assistant at the Circulation Desk. Talk with Youth Services staff about your child’s developmental needs.

A St. Charles Library card is required for most Youth Services programs.

  • IN-PERSON – Register everyone in your family with one Library card and a completed registration form at the ASK ME Desk.
  • Youth Calendar & RegistrationONLINE – Register members of your family with each person’s individual Library card via the Library’s website.
  • TELEPHONE – Register everyone in your family with one Library card by calling the ASK ME Staff at 630-584-9390.
