This book was just phenomenal. I loved it from beginning to end. It might take a true desire to read through it, but I believe it to be worth it. I read this in either 7th or 8th grade and it was tremendously worth it. So well written, and with every detail making you turn to the next page- you'll never want it to end!!

Nita ducks into the library to escape from classmates, who torment her. While there, the book, So You Want to be a Wizard, catches her hand. She thinks it's a joke, but takes the book home, and recites the Oath to become a wizard. Immediately, she can talk to trees. She meets Kit, also a novice wizard. While trying to create a spell to keep themselves safe from the school bullies, they accidentally call up Fred, a white hole, who produces jets, and gold bricks, and other things every time he hiccups, and then complains that his gnaester hurts. Their first mission is to save the universe from the Starsnuffer. This involves truly frightening adventures, in which killer cars roam in packs, like wolves. Almost everything is against them, and nothing is as it seems. This is the first book in the Young Wizards series.
