At first, fourteen year old Ben is excited to take a two day road trip with his Dad and his Border Collie, Atticus, (who helps narrate the story), to rescue a border collie puppy who needs a home NOW. That's until he finds out his Dad wants to spend the drive time explaining just why he quit his job to try something different, and that consequently there will be not enough money coming in for Ben to attend the hockey camp he's been looking forward to attending that summer. In a sulk, Ben invites his semi-delinquent friend, Theo, to join them. Mishap upon mishap occur: broken cars, racing police cars, and having to outsmart a very nasty bad guy. And what trip would be complete without picking up a few stray people along the way: a mechanic who loans them his bus, but doesn't trust them to drive it, and an aspiring actress who can read auras. For everyone involved, getting to the puppy in time seems to be the most important thing in their lives right now. Will they be able to save him in time?
