Rosemary is horrified when her third grade class chooses a rat as the class pet! Worse, the teacher chooses her to be one of the rat keepers for the first week. When she gets to know Cheese the rat, though, she learns he is sweet and soft. Then, she finds out Brian, who is rough with Cheese, will be taking him home for the weekend. Scared for Cheese's life, she hides him in her sleeve and takes him home herself. Will Rosemary be able to hide Cheese and bring him back to school safely? If you're curious about pet rats, this book also has a section of rat care tips from Rosemary at the end.

Toby Wheeler is a gym rat, and he's happy with that. Why would he want to be tied to practices in organized basketball when he can be a free man playing basketball at the recreation center? Toby's best friend, JJ, plays for the team, and as far as Toby can see, it's a lot of work. When JJ seems to be slipping away from Toby to spend time with his new friends, and the new coach encourages Toby to come out for the team, he decides to give it a shot. Could it be worth it, though, if the only position he has on the team is as a benchwarmer?
