When Opal meets a large, ugly dog causing chaos at the Winn-Dixie grocery store, she pretends he's her dog. It turns out that Winn-Dixie (as she names him) causes more trouble and brings more happiness than she could ever have expected, when he makes her friends in the new town, helps her get a job, and brings her together with her father. Sometimes funny, sometimes sad, and always entertaining, Because of Winn-Dixie is a moving story of sadness, friendship, and community. It also makes a wonderful title for reading aloud.
