A little girl is the only one awake in her whole house. All is quiet: the cat is sleeping in her box, the baby is sleeping in her crib, and her parents are sleeping in their bed. This little girl has other plans for her sleeping family. She gets out her horn, and you can guess what happens next! This simple good morning story is a great read-aloud choice for younger preschoolers.

As Mom puts her little one to bed she tells him about all the other people going to sleep. Colorful illustrations show people in different occupations, sleeping soundly in their workplaces with a coordinating stuffed animal. Each has completed his or her work for the day ('The librarian is sleeping. Books put away'), and is now resting in a peaceful slumber.

This collection of some of the world's silliest folktales from 20 different countries on six continents is a great way to introduce younger readers to traditional tales. Some you will recognize, some will be new. Children will enjoy the nonsense words and repetition, but also the important lessons. Especially fun for the littler ones will be the fact that in the stories, the youngest or least significant of the characters prove to be the smartest or bravest. These tales also reinforce a child's sense of right or wrong while providing a glimpse into other cultures.

This tale is one retold from A Thousand and One Nights. It takes place in ancient Baghdad where Sindbad the Sailor tells the story of his wondrous travels. Now, Sindbad the Sailor had been on many journeys, but sometimes his stories grew out of proportion to his actual travels. This story will enthrall anyone who enjoys monsters, action, and wicked traps. It is illustrated by the author with exquisite drawings.

Every morning, Skippyjon Jones wakes with the birds in their nest. This would not be strange if Skippyjon were a bird, but he is a Siamese cat. On this particular morning, Skippyjon's mother brings him home to his room to think about what it means to be a Siamese cat. Once by himself, Skippyjon begins to sing, 'Oh, I'm Skippyjon Jones, and I bounce on my bed, and once or SIX times, I land on my head.' As he looks at his reflection in his mirror, he concludes that he is not a Siamese cat, but a Chihuahua! He walks into his closet and his thoughts take him to Mexico. In Mexico, he meets a menagerie of animals that fall in love with Skippyjon. Will Skippyjon stay in Mexico forever? Read Skippyjon Jones and find out. Then, look for other picture books featuring Skippyjon Jones by Judy Schachner.
