'The Frog with the Big Mouth' by Teresa Bateman is a story that will tickle anyone's funny bone. In this book's delightful verse and vivid illustrations, the young reader will find the antics of the Big Mouth Frog amusing. Here, we are introduced to many unusual creatures of the rain forest. We follow the Big Mouth Frog as he sets out to amaze and impress his fellow inhabitants with the news that he has eaten the BIGGEST fly in the world. He is positive that this amazing accomplishment makes him superior to them. In turn, each creature shows very little interest in the frog's bragging and continues on its way. But their failure to be impressed does not deter Frog from venturing further into the forest. Deep in the rainforest, The Big Mouth Frog, may or may not, find something that makes him a little more humble.

From Head to Toe

On this tour of the body from head to toe, each body part is matched with an animal that can do something specific with that body part. 'I am a monkey and I wave my arms. Can you do it?' A child imitates the action and says, 'I can do it!' This makes a great read for a preschooler who has trouble sitting still to listen to a book, because each page provides another action that the child can do as he or she follows along. Along with vividly colored pictures, the actions of clapping, wriggling, bending, and stomping make this an exciting read.

The book begins with an intriguing illustration of sheet music on a clothes line, and an interesting author's note about how opera was born. The beauty of the words, and illustrations, transports the reader to Venice. Here in Venice, we meet a sweet little girl named Gabriella. Gabriella creates a song, which is comprised of the sounds of her town: the street traders, the flap-flap of pigeon wings, and a plethora of other interesting sounds. The town's people begin hearing this song, and also sing it around town. Read this book and you might just begin singing a song of your own!
