Morning Glory is a delightful romp through a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into producing a morning TV news show. Think Matt and Meredith but with co-hosts
Colleen Peck (charming Diane Keaton) and Mike Pomeroy (grumpy Harrison Ford)
who clearly despise each other, but must feign compatibility for rating’s sake. These two are brought together by a vivacious Becky Fuller (Rachel McAdams) who has landed her dream job producing a heavyweight morning show, but must up the ante by asking her hosts to undertake some hilarious stunts and outrageous interviews to gain market share.
Picture Keaton making nice with various zoo animals with the
predictable outcome that only working with the unpredictable can bring. Picture Ford who has been a peer of Brokaw and Rather, viewing the obligatory jolly weatherman riding a roller coaster with a camera strapped to his headgear.
Make no mistake, despite the star power of Ford and Keaton,
this movie belongs to McAdams whose sheer optimism and determination sparkle in
every scene. Will Becky be able to force a truce between Colleen and Mike and
put Daybreak back on top? Will hard news and frivolous stunts ever win the loyalty of morning viewers? Who knows, but Morning Glory will have you smiling and longing for your remote control and your cup of joe.
