Hubble Hubble.jpg

As seen above, the Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2′s final “pretty picture” is the planetary nebula known as Kohoutek 4-55 (or K 4-55). Image credit: NASA/ESA/JPL
Hubble’s had the same camera for about 16 years, so it’s time for an upgrade. Follow the action on the Hubble’s NASA Mission Page.
Hubble has helped scientists see and discover some amazing things, including:
Taking the deepest photograph of the universe.
Observations of comet collision with Jupiter. The Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2 gave the world a rare, stunning view of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 plunging into the gas giant Jupiter in 1994.
The birth and death of stars. Its famed picture of the “Pillars of Creation” and other images of colorful dying stars offered the first, glorious views of a star’s life. nebula.jpg
The age and rate of expansion of our universe. Hubble’s findings led to the calculation that our universe is approximately 13.7 billion years old.
The fact that most galaxies harbor huge black holes.
Wondering how the heck it works? Check this out!
Just like the pretty pictures? See some of Hubble’s most famous and beautiful images here.

The year 2009 commemorates both the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his famous work On the Origin of Species.
The largest Darwin resource ever created is available at The Complete Works of Charles Darwin Online.
This web site was created in 2002 at the University of Cambridge to assemble all of Darwin’s writings, both published and unpublished.
The New York Times Science page of February 10, 2009 has many features on Darwin and evolution. Take a look.
The University of Chicago will host a Darwin/Chicago 2009 Conference October 29-31, 2009.
