Computers & Internet
 

Adults (18 and older)

St. Charles Public Library cardholders are allowed a total of 4 separate sign-ins per day with your own valid Library Card.

Computer and Internet Access Policy

Technology Center (Internet and Microsoft Office 2007 Software)

  • Requires your own valid St. Charles Public Library Card. 
  • Up to four (4) sessions allowed per day, each up to one (1) hour.  Each session may be extended up to 30 minutes if no one is waiting.
  • Microsoft Office 2007 applications available (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Access). 

Express Stations (Internet and Microsoft Office 2007 Software)

  • Four (4) stations for use primarily by visitors, aged 18 and older. 
  • Up to four (4) twenty-minute sessions allowed per day*.
  • Must be able to present photo ID for proof of age upon request.
  • Microsoft Office 2007 applications available.

Microsoft Office 2007 Software Only

  • Five (5) Electronic Resources stations in the Info Commons have Microsoft Office 2007 applications available.
  • No sign-in required.

Wireless Access is available throughout the Library (printing not available).

Online Catalog & Tools:

  • The Info Commons features eight (8) sit-down computers with direct access to the Library Catalog and Online Resources.  
  • Access to over 70 Premium Search Databases on topics including business and stock reports, genealogy, magazine articles, online encyclopedias, local history, and more.
  • NO SIGN-IN REQUIRED

Additional Features

  • All computers feature USB ports and floppy drives. 
  • Technology Center computers also feature CD burners.

Print Stations:

  • All computers are connected to a print station which requires an initial purchase of a $1.00 “debit” print card. Black & white printouts are 10 cents/page; Color printouts are $1.00/page. 

Scanners:

  • 2 scanners/computers (scanners are 8 ½” x 11” and 11” x 17”) are available in the Technology Center.  Requires a valid St. Charles Public Library Card. 

2 Microfilm Machines with printers are available in the Info Commons (no sign-in required).

Technology Center Staff are available during most Library open hours to offer technical support.

High School Students

Internet Access & Microsoft Office 2007 Software are available to eligible High School Students under the age of 18.  Students may be asked to present their valid St. Charles Library card as proof of eligibility.  Students are allowed a total of 4 separate sign-ins per day with their own valid Library Card.

Computer and Internet Access Policy

Internet Access is available to eligible High School students under the age of 18.  To be eligible, High School students must have both of the following:

  • a permission form signed by a parent or guardian allowing Internet access at the Library (this is done in person at the Circulation Desk in Adult Services) AND
  • their own valid St. Charles Public Library card.

Students may be asked to present their valid St. Charles Public Library card as proof of eligibility.
