Magnifiers & Other Tools
|
Several magnifiers are available for use in the Library. The closed circuit television (CCTV) magnifier has a display screen which reflects images in color. The CCTV is a magnifying camera. Images from materials placed on the movable reading table are projected onto the display screen. The CCTV, which is especially useful for reading newspapers, magazines, or important documents, is located in the Large Print area of the Library.
Luxo Wave Plus lighted magnifiers (2) also are available for use in the Library through the generosity of the Geneva Lions Club. One of the Luxo lighted magnifiers is located on a table outside of the Technology Center. The other is in a reading carrel in the Reference Area. A semi-portable Luxo is available to use at home.
Assistive Devices for low vision patrons, the mobility impaired, and the deaf are available for check out or delivery. Outreach Services staff is happy to demonstrate any of these devices:
- MiniViewer portable CCTV (closed circuit television)
- QuickLook portable, lightweight CCTV
- Luxo Wave Plus magnifier, portable
- Hand held magnifiers
- Verilux Happy Eyes lamp & lighted magnifiers
- Cassette players, (4) very basic, for patrons who find Talking Book equipment too complex
- Various tools designed to help the mobility impaired to hold reading material

Ask Outreach Services for a demonstration of these devices. If you are in the Library, ask for Outreach staff at any public service desk or call us at 630-584-0076, ext. 219 or ext. 269.
