Youth Services Librarian I: Middle School Specialist

 St. Charles Public Library District, is seeking a team member who is dedicated to excellence in service and passionate about serving middle school students in grades 6-8.

Schedule: Full-time position available, 38 hours a week, including one-two evenings a week, weekend rotation and open holidays as scheduled.

Duties: This position will be primarily responsible for services and resources for the middle school student; improving, developing and encouraging use of the Library’s resources and services; and facilitating a smooth transition to high school/young adult services. Duties will include: developing our middle school fiction collections of both print and digital resources and video games; coordinating student volunteers; serving as the Youth Services tech guru, providing assistance/instruction in use of online and digital resources; and staffing the ASK ME desk providing reference and reader advisory assistance to children, parents and educators. Other duties may be assigned in response to the needs of the department.

Responsibilities: The ideal candidate will be an outgoing self-starter with experience in prioritizing a variety of tasks, able to immediately step into a fast-paced environment and is eager to cooperate and collaborate with team members to support the mission of the St. Charles Public Library District.

Qualifications: Applicants must have:

  • ALA accredited MLS/MLIS.
  • Vast knowledge of literature for grades 6-8 and strength in grades 3-5 and young adult literature.
  • Tech-savvy with current technology and fearless in exploring emerging technology.
  • Proficient with Apple products.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Attention to detail a must.
  • Ability to adapt to changing work situations and job responsibilities.

Minimum Starting Salary: From $41,595 commensurate with experience. This is a full time category “A” position and benefits include participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), health insurance, paid vacation and sick time.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ASSISTANT A:

Schedule: Part-time position available, 13.75 hours/week average, on Thursdays and Fridays only. Will include a shift every other week from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. on Thursday; and 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. on Friday; and alternating weeks from 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Thursday; and 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Duties: Will manage the IT Help Desk, provide patron assistance, and monitor the Technology Center and the Information Commons computer/printer areas.

Qualifications: Must have a high school diploma and excellent communications and customer service skills. PC, Internet, Printing, Windows, and Microsoft Office Suite knowledge and experience required. Some college level library, IT or IS coursework preferred. Training provided.

Minimum Starting Salary: $10.25 to 12.81/hour, depending on experience.
