The St. Charles Public Library is located in the scenic Fox River Valley, 35 miles west of Chicago, and is a dynamic, highly-rated, and award-winning Library, serving a growing District population of 55,092 residents, and has a staff of 125.



Schedule: Full-time position, 38 hours per week, includes approximately one weekend per month.  

Duties: Will provide reference and reader services at busy public service desks and manage an active Outreach Services department. Duties include: visiting offsite locations, the intake of new outreach patrons, formulating policies and goals, supervising staff, collecting statistics, and evaluating service. Will collect and maintain all of the library’s large print materials. Will instruct patrons and capably use a wide variety of library databases, downloadable services, computer equipment and personal electronics. Will also coordinate adult volunteers and represent the library at community events.

Will work with a team of 24 professional staff members and will supervise two para-professional staff members.

Qualifications: ALA accredited MLS or MLIS degree and three years professional library experience are required. A successful candidate will be empathetic and have both an ability and enthusiasm for working with the elderly and special populations. Experience with public library reference services and current library technology is required. Supervisory experience is preferred.

Annual Salary: From $48,649.00 – 60,811.00; depending upon experience. This positon includes participation in IMRF, health insurance, and a generous benefit package.

Schedule:  30 hours per week; 7:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m., six hours per day, Monday through Thursday, and from 10:00 a..m.–4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Duties:  Will search bibliographic records in SirsiDynix Integrated Library System; add new bibliographic records in to the Library database from OCLC; and perform copy cataloging of library materials in all formats.  Will maintain records in the Library database and place orders with library jobbers or publishers.

Education/Experience:  Associate’s degree or an LTA certificate and/or equivalent experience working with bibliographic and authority records in a public library setting are required.

Other requirements include but are not limited to:  knowledge of Dewey Decimal Classification, AACR2/RDA, MARC formats and OCLC Connexion; online computer catalog/ILS (SirsiDynix preferred); familiarity with using the Internet, email, and MS Office 2010.  This position also requires keen attention to detail and excellent organizational and reasoning skills.  Must be comfortable working independently and able to sustain intense, focused concentration in order to complete tasks in an accurate and efficient manner. 

Salary:  $15.28 - $19.10/hour, depending on qualifications and experience. This position includes participation in IMRF, health insurance, and a generous benefit package.
