SUMMARY

Highlights

• The Library was named one of America’s Star Libraries by the Library Journal Index of Public Library Service
• The Library District population grew 25.4% from the 2000 census (43,917) to the 2010 census (55,092)
• 98% of users surveyed were satisfied with reference service
• 3 Facebook pages were initiated: Adult, Teen and Kids
• Drop-in e-reader use training workshops were added
• In June 54.7% of all check-outs were done on self-check stations
• A snack area was added on the mezzanine

Use of Library Resources

• 1,637,053 items were checked out – almost 30 per capita
• 604,515 unique visits to the Library website (50,376 per month)
• 2,588,733 Library website pages were viewed
• There were 531,388 actual patron visits to the Library
• 157,456 reference questions were asked: 2.86 per capita (Up 10.75%)
• 50.85% of residents have SC library cards
• E-book and downloadable audiobooks use tripled
• Videogame use increased 64%
• 376 virtual reference questions were answered for remote users
• 371 people attended 41 free computer classes

Resource Facts

• Downloadable music was added
• Heavy emphasis was on increasing e-book and other electronic resources
• A mobile site was added for use of the catalog, placing reserves, and checking patron records on smartphones and tablet computers
• Total materials collection increased 3.5%, from 368,147 to 381,160
• 62% of the collection is adult material; 38% is for children and students through 8th grade
• The book collection increased 3.8% from 297,601 to 308,873
  32,226 books were added; 21,670 were withdrawn
• The DVD, CD, etc. collection grew 2.5% from 70,546 to 72,287
  9,304 items were added; 5,245 were withdrawn
