If the book or other item you want is already checked out or owned by another library within the Library’s catalog consortium, you may place a hold on it. St. Charles Library cardholders may have up to 20 holds at any time and will be notified when an item is available to pick up.
To request items, use the online catalog and follow the steps below.
1. From the Search Results page, click on the white “hold” hand on the left side.
2. Type your entire bar code number as it appears on the reverse of your library card, omitting spaces.
3. Type in your PIN. Click Login button.
4. Click on Submit Hold.
5. Click on Return to Search Results.
IMPORTANT: When finished, close your account by clicking on LOGOUT in button toolbar.
Interlibrary loan requests for materials from outside of LINC, the Library's catalog consortium, may be made at the Information Services Desk, by telephone to 630-584-0076, ext. 1 or by using the Materials Request or Magazine/Journal Article Request Forms.
Checking Your Holds
Login to My Account and click Review My Account to see a list of items currently on hold for you. Only items coming from outside of our shared catalog will not be listed here. You may also cancel selected holds from this page.
Suspend Selected Holds
You can temporarily suspend your holds if you are going to be on vacation or otherwise unable to make use of the items you have on hold. When you suspend a hold it is suspended until a specific date, then it becomes active again. While your holds are suspended, they will continue to move to the top of the line, but they will not be filled until you activate them again or until the "Suspend until" date is reached. Login to My Account then "Review Account" and look for the "Suspend Holds" button.
Picking Up Your Holds
Any item from Adult or Youth Services that you have placed on hold, or requested to be saved for you, will be found on the first shelving unit next to the Large Print area on the main level across from the Circulation Desk. All items have a paper cover attached with your name on the spine.
