April 2011 Artist of the Month
Marcy Kubat of River Forest studied with Oak Park art instructor, Dominic Vignola, learning a method of painting termed tonal realism. This distinctive method focuses on patterns of light and shadow and their tonal value. Her paintings are in the classical approach of realism, and encompass landscapes, portraits, and still-life. She has also studied with artist Gregg Kreutz at the Palette and Chisel Academy of Fine Arts, and currently with George Ceffalio, with emphasis on chiaroscuro, using wood painting panels.
Marcy's paintings were featured in a solo exhibit, Mid-Summer Color, at Frame Warehouse, Oak Park, Illinois. She participated in a national juried exhibition of fine art presented by the LaGrange Art League. Her works have been displayed in group showings at the River Forest Public Library and Dominican University Art Gallery, River Forest., and recently won first place award at the Oak Park Art League "Anything Goes" show in March 2011.
Marcy has encouraging words for would-be artists:
“If you think painting in oils is only for the specially-gifted, think anew. If you have harbored a long-time interest in painting, if the kids are raised and gone, go for painting isn't all mystery. it’s a combination of learning, enjoyment, - and painstaking effort. The main ingredient is your own determination and perseverance.” |
