Banned Books Week 2009

stripe

Top ten most frequently challenged books of 2008

The St. Charles Public Library DOES NOT BAN these books or any others.

Banned Books Week - Know, Speak, ReadBanned Books Week 2009 is the twenty-eighth annual celebration of the freedom to read. This freedom, not only to choose what we read, but also to be able to select from a full array of possibilities, is firmly rooted in the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees freedom of speech and freedom of press. Although we enjoy an increasing quantity and availability of information and reading material, we must remain vigilant to ensure that access to this material is preserved; would-be censors, who continue to threaten the freedom to read, come from all quarters and from all political persuasions. Even if their motivations for restrictions are well intentioned, censors try to limit the freedom of others to choose what they read, see, or hear.

Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing.
I am the lorax, I speak for the trees, fro the trees have no tongues.
All knowledge is spendable currency depending on the market.
