HIGHLIGHTS

  • Construction of the new 43-space parking lot completed
  • Mission statement and strategic plan updated
  • Library named one of the 2012 America’s Star Libraries by “Library Journal”- one of only 262 of 7,570 U.S. public libraries to receive this honor
  • Library received an Illinois Alliance for Arts Education Service Award in recognition of our annual Imagination student art exhibit and open house.
  • Technical Services Manager Myung Sung received the Illinois Library Association 2012 Technical Services Award
  • Retiring Public Relations Manager Merilee Curtis received the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce Women’s Council 2012 LEAP Award.
  • Library Board President Tory Haines named a 2012 Woman of Distinction by Kane County Magazine for her philanthropic work in the community
  • Library Friends donated a sculpture, “Chasing My Shadow”
  • Our Community Reads, Literature Festival, and Charlie’s Center for the Arts co-sponsored with other community agencies

  • 150,540 reference questions were answered: 2.9 per capita (+3.2%)
  • 49% of our 55,092 residents have current St. Charles library cards (-2.7%)
  • Adult program attendance + 36%; youth services + 4.8%
  • 96% of survey respondents were satisfied with reference service

RESOURCE FACTS

  • 3M Cloud e-book platform was added
  • Boopsie, the new Library app, made its debut
  • Collection HQ was added to enhance collection development and maintenance
  • 19.3% of the Library’s budget was spent on library books and other resources (+1.5%)
  • Total materials collection increased 2.86%, from 395,183 to 406,484
  • 64% of the collection was adult and young adult material; 36%, children and students through 8th grade
  • 39,850 items were added to the collection (+4.4%); 36,177 were withdrawn (+27.8%)
