How AskAway Illinois WorksAskAway Illinois is a live chat service. Just submit your question to begin chatting with staff who will be glad to assist you. During Library hours, you’ll usually be communicating with St. Charles Public Library staff. After hours or during very busy times, you may be connected with a librarian from another library.
Staff can guide you through the online catalog, Internet, and other Library resources. For some premium search databases, staff may need to request your St. Charles Public Library card and PIN number. After the end of your session, if you have provided your email address, you will receive a transcript of the chat session and a list of Internet resources used. As with any transaction which you have with a Library staff member, the information you submit is considered confidential. Read the Privacy Statement for more detailed information.
All requests are answered regardless of where an individual resides. However, because of time restraints or the type of question asked, users outside of our service area may receive partial responses, suggested further approaches, or referral to his/her home library.
AskAway Illinois is designed to provide:
- Short, factual answers
- Assistance using the Library’s online catalog
- Help finding a reliable and authoritative web site
- Information on searching the Library's premium search databases
What AskAway Illinois cannot provide:
- Advice or opinions, including legal, medical, or tax issues
- Completed homework assignments (though we will help you find resources to answer your questions)
